Most Diverse Humanist Congress EverWill Train Next Generation of LeadersReprinted with permission from IHEU. www.iheu.org The home of the world’s most successful Humanist group will be the site of the most geographically diverse Humanist conference ever. Two months before the start of the World Humanist Congress in Oslo, Norway, participants from almost 60 countries have already registered. That’s fast approaching twice the national participation of any congress in IHEU’s 60 year history. Full Text Leadership training The conference will provide discussion and training on many issues concerning Humanists, in addition to the main congress theme of “Humanism and Peace”. On August 10 and 11, the two days before the Congress, IHEU will offer a leadership training programme for Humanist activists. Great Speakers Congress participants will receive a special invitation to Oslo Town Hall, the site of the annual Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony. The mayor of Oslo will be joined by Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon and the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jonas Gahr Støre, to welcome the world’s Humanists to Norway. She has published in many journals, given talks at conferences all over the world including most recently in Sydney at TAM Oz and has appeared often on radio and television discussing a variety of paranormal and belief related topics. Her main research areas are the creation of false memories, the psychology of belief and individual differences. In this talk Dr Wilson will review the nature, mechanism and some of the psychological features of suggestibility. 15th August - Dr Mick Vagg “Bubbles of Nothing - Pain and Placebo Science” Dr Michael Vagg is a Consultant in Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine who works in Geelong. He is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Deakin University School of Medicine and has been involved in the skeptical movement formally for three years and is a lapsed and reformed true believer in mind-body medicine, herbal medicine, acupuncture, Jungian psychology, the paranormal and Catholicism. He is a founding member of Great Ocean Road Skeptics in the Pub and contributor of the entertaining Fish Slapper of the Week to Skepticbros.com.
