Australian Census, August 2011
If you're not really religious, for goodness' sake, mark "No Religion"
Along with other freethought organisations around Australia, the Rationalist Society urges all Australians to think before they answer the Religion question in the coming Census.
Why?
Because Census data is used to justify how taxpayers' money is used.
And because the more people say they're religious, the more money will go to religious organisations and religious activity.
Only those who genuinely accept the doctrinal beliefs of a religion should say they are a member of that religion. Most others are simply 'culturally' Christian or 'culturally' Jewish or 'culturally' Muslim.
If you'd like to help spread the word about this campaign, use the background information on the RSA website to talk to family and friends about how to answer the Religion question in the August Census.
You can also download and print off pamphlets in colour or black and white. Use these to letterbox your local area, put them under windscreens in the supermarket parking lot, or on the notice board at work.
Most importantly, talk to people about the issue. It is important - data matters!
