To all Rationalists!
We'd like to alert you to the inaugural "Think Inc." conference to be held in Melbourne later this year.
Focusing on the leading edge of popular science, informed by a rationalist philosophy, the Think Inc. conference will bring some of the most interesting thinkers in the world to Australia, some for the first time.
Christopher Hitchens needs no introduction to Rationalists, but you may not be as aware of Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Tyson is an American astrophysicist and Research Associate of the American Museum of Natural History. An acclaimed science communicator, he appears regularly on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, and has written extensively on religion and the spirituality of science. He has a particular interest in combatting the claims of 'intelligent design'.
Michael Shermer is founder of the Skeptics Society in the US, and a prolific writer about science and the history and philosophy of science. Once a fundamentalist Christian, he now describes himself as a nontheist and advocate for humanist philosophy.
Our own Tim Flannery is a paleontologist, environmentalist and global warming activist. Australian of the Year in 2007, Flannery is now a professor at Macquarie University and Chairman of the Copenhagen Climate Council. He is well known for his controversial views on topics ranging from population and land use ("The Future Eaters") to carbon emissions ("The Weather Makers") and sustainable whaling.
