Definition of Charity

Should religious organisations get tax breaks to evangelise, proselytise and protect their privileges?

The RSA says No!

Leading up to the establishment next year of the long overdue "Charities Commission", the Federal Treasury is seeking views on how to define what is a charity.

Since the time of Queen Elizabeth I (not QE II, but the 1600s Queen Elizabeth!) it has been assumed under English common law that the 'advancement of religion' is charitable.

We argue this is a nonsense in today's secular society.  Read our submission here.
